This is Philpott Lake, truly a hidden gem in the southwest of Virginia. With the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains in view, it is not difficult to close your eyes and hear songbirds in the treetops, imagine white-tailed deer grazing along the water’s edge or a black bear wading in its waters on a hot summer day. This was our first visit here and our first time venturing to this part of the Blue Ridge Mountains. As I watched the fisherman look so small compared to this larger than life view, I couldn’t help but think of the proverb:
